NEWLY REVISED AND UPDATED FOR 2015. The intermittent Israeli-Palestinian negotiations have failed for years, achieving nothing but tragedy. Now, in this Single, journalist and international lawyer Steven S. Drachman presents a bold new framework for peace in Palestine and Israel that addresses all outstanding issues without bias. (And no, this is not the "one-state" solution that has been proposed for years.) This book will give all those willing to listen - both Jews and Palestinians - new hope for the Holy Land.

There are many reasons to be cynical and defeatist about the situation in the Middle East. Steven Drachman has clearly heard a lot of those reasons from a lot of people on all sides. Despite this he is not afraid to be creative in his passion for peace. This books lays out a thoughtful solution to the Israel/Palestine problem that addresses concerns about the one- and two-state models. It is destined to spawn some debate and no doubt some (including me) will have questions about both the broad approach and many of the details. But c'mon, do you want to endlessly continue the war/cease-fire cycle of the past? Then read this and let Stephen know what you think (constructively if at all possible).

Enough Already A Framework For Permanent Peace in a New Palestine and Israel edition by Steven Drachman Politics Social Sciences eBooks Reviews

Enough Already presents a unique solution to the Israeli-Palestinian problem, a problem that has frequently erupted in violence on too many occasions to count since the 1940’s. In presenting the solution, the author considers the various political, military, geographic and economic problems the solution would present, and provides his thoughts on solving each of them.

The book definitely is thought-provoking and should be read by anyone interested in the Middle East and the two-state solution that has been the framework for a deal. However, this short book really is just a starting point for the proposed solution, in that a myriad of further issues/problems – from the serious to the mundane - would need to be explored and solved if the parties were to embark on such a solution.

Given the seemingly intractable nature of the problem, a fresh perspective clearly can help [and surely can’t hurt], and Enough Already provides a unique and tantalizing approach to finding a framework for peace in the promised land.
Many people, East and West alike, have come to see the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians as unsolvable, both sides too intractable to ever make meaningful changes. Attempt after attempt has been made to broker a peace with very little to show for the efforts.

Steven Drachman discusses a number of hurdles and argues that none of the current proposals will work – neither the two-state solution or the one shared state. Instead he proposes solutions such as returning to the 1948 borders, but with both states acting under a single currency. A single army, but with no overarching government overseeing both states.

He acknowledges the challenges to his solution - the hatred each side has for the other, the central question of Jerusalem, how to co-exist when both sides view the other as terrorists. But he argues that with enough carrots, these issues can be overcome by encouraging cooperation and helping each side see the other as partners rather than combatants.

In the end, it’s an interesting idea with merit. While human memories are long and our proclivities to grudge-holding well entrenched, we are also blessed with the ability to change. Change, however, will need to bold and the participants brave.
There are many reasons to be cynical and defeatist about the situation in the Middle East. Steven Drachman has clearly heard a lot of those reasons from a lot of people on all sides.
